Trip Details

Herp Trip: Sunday, June 10 2001

Herpers: Matt Ricklefs, Jim Scharosch, Laura Scharosch, Austin Scharosch

Location: Johnson County

Time: 10:00 am

Temp/Conditions: 75 - 80 degrees. Low wind, mostly sunny.

In a very nice open sandy area with many burrows we found a Racer (Coluber constrictor) that appeared to be out sunning. She was cover partly by grasses when we found her. She was about four feet long and quite gravid.

Later in the day by a quarry in Linn county we found a Fox Snake (Elaphe vulpina) under a board. This appeared to be a snake that was found the week before and we wanted to see if she was still there and may have laid some eggs as she was gravid. She appeared to still be gravid and seemed to be in her pre-egg laying shed.

Overall we didn't see too much, but since it was our first racer of the year, and a nice one, it was a good trip. It is good to just get out also. See ya, and good herpin'!!
