Thought of the Day: Grungy.
I had just gotten back from an extended work trip out of town and had not herped for a while. Being spring and having things really get in gear, and not be able to get out, is disappointing. So, I made a couple of quick stops. My first spot did not produce much, but it did yield my first Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon). This one was a juvenile at about eight inches.
My next spot was a familiar one and yielded not one, but two grungy and in-shed Milk Snakes (Lampropeltis triangulum). The first was about sixteen inches and the second was about twenty-one inches. The first had some garf on its back, but I suspect that after shedding it will be ok.
That was about it for the day. I was glad I found something and it will have to tide me over until I can get out again. I'll be in Colorado soon and plan to get out then. We'll see what we can "herp up".
Until next time!
