I stopped by a site in Buchanan County that I didn't visit at all last year. This site is always good for garters and browns, and occasionally turns up a green snake.

Well, today was one of those occasional days where I find a Smooth Green Snake (Opheodrys vernalis).

It was an adult and it was in shed so the colors were very muted. It was a bit over a foot long.

I also found a couple of Eastern Gartersnakes (Thamnophis sirtalis) which I include only for the sake of not having a post with only one snake.

That was it, not too exciting, but it's always cool to see a green snake.
